Morton County Courthouse Veteran Service Officer in MANDAN, North Dakota

Morton County is currently accepting applications for a Veteran's Service Officer. This position is designed to assist the veteran and military service community in providing advice, assistance and counseling to veterans and/or their families on matters relating to veteran benefits and services. This position will also serve as a veteran's advocate by assuring any benefits and entitlements due are paid in accordance with federal, state and county laws and regulations. Specifically, this position will focus on state and federal veterans legislation, acquainting clients with their rights, regulations and procedures, benefits counseling, consulting with medical care providers, preparing veterans benefit claims, claims management, accessing other local benefits and resources, and consulting with other government agencies to ensure that their clientele are receiving the maximum level of assistance and benefits to which they are entitled. This is an administrative position that is based in an office environment with approximately 30% travel requirements. The demands of this position will, at times, create a high stress environment with urgent and time sensitive deadlines. Accuracy, timeliness and a meticulous eye for detail will be critical factors in the success of this position. Equally important, we are looking for an individual who is committed to serving those voices who may go unheard. This position will require someone with a strong sense of advocacy and the ability to be accepting of a diverse client population. To be eligible, you must be able to pass a background check, have a clean driving history and routinely pass a drug and alcohol screen. Preference may be provided to veterans. Preferably, we are seeking an individual who has combat-related experience; however, this is not a requirement.
