Position Summary: Sells life and annuity, accident and health, property, casualty, or other types of insurance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sells various types of insurance policies to businesses and individuals on behalf of insurance companies, with a combination of inside and outside sales.

  • Develops leads and referral sources by participating in community and civic activities as an agency representative.

  • Interviews prospective clients and existing policyholders to gather and analyze information.

  • Obtains quotes and prepares proposals. Conducts sales presentations. Prepares and submits applications. Collects initial premiums and issues receipts. Requests policy changes.

  • Performs property inspections as needed.

  • Establishes and maintains customer relationships to aid in business retention.

  • Reviews insurance policies to determine appropriate coverage to suit individual customers.

  • Communicates with insurance company representatives and agency support staff.

  • Reviews files, records and other documents to obtain information prior to responding to support staff/policyholder/insurance company inquiries, issues, and complaints.

  • Ensures that insurance company and agency requirements are met, including the completion of all appropriate forms.

  • Explains available policy features, conditions and terms of the policies.

  • Advises policyholders of claims and billing policies and procedures as needed.

  • Monitors insurance claims to ensure they are settled equitably for both the client and the insurer.

  • Operates office machines such as printer/copier/scanner, fax machines including electronic desktop faxing, multi-line telephone systems, voice mail systems, and personal computers.

  • Enters data and supporting documentation into computer for use in maintaining customer records and preparing documents.

  • Consistently reviews email and other correspondence to remain current on policy/procedural changes and new product offerings.

  • Promotes FIB&T products and services.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, internal controls, and regulations.

  • Responsible for confidentiality including protection of sensitive information and its integrity in compliance with First International Bank & Trust information security and departmental policies, standards and procedures. Responsible for reporting events including suspicious activity as well as cooperating with all investigations.

Qualifications:

  • Maintains an active producer license in good standing from state of residency. Acquires non-residence licenses as necessary.

  • Must be knowledgeable of insurance products, services, web sites, and rating systems.

  • Keeps informed of current insurance industry trends.

  • Highly motivated with good organizational skills.

  • Proficient with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Must have an Associate-s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or six months to one year related experience/training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must commit to earning at least one professional designation.

  • Must complete ongoing training with regard to FIB&T products and services.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, printer/copier/scanner, telephone, calculator and other office equipment.

  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus.

  • Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.

  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
