Job Details:

The Customer Account Specialist performs a variety of business office and reception duties accurately and with minimal supervision. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: answering and routing phone calls in accordance with practice policies; scheduling patient appointments; greeting and registering patients; collecting, verifying and updating patient demographic and insurance information; gathering and coding charge information. Education: High School graduate or equivalent. Workflow Redesign Specialist Certificate required.Licensure: None. Experience: Prefer a minimum of two years secretarial background in a medical facility such as a clinic or hospital. Computer training and knowledge of medical terminology and scheduling practices preferred. Skills: Continual analysis and assistance in the reorganization of workflow to take advantage of Health Information Technology. Aide in evaluating the EMR process, identifying problems and changes that are needed, and assisting with the implementation of these changes. Assist in the development and maintenance of a plan to keep the practice running if the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system fails. Continual workflow process analysis to enhance quality improvement for the patient throughput in the outpatient encounter both at St Alexius and satellite clinics. Adaptable to multiple software applications for registration, scheduling, acquiring patient medical records for the providers and patient billing. Proficient with indexing and scanning of Medical Records. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. Well-developed oral and written communication skills in working with referring physicians, nurses, and office staff.Interpersonal Skills: Mature and able to work under pressure. A pleasant personality and speaking voice; ability to relate well with physicians, patients, and staff. Has the ability to deal with dissatisfied customers. Maintains a positive and professional manner at all times. This person is responsible for providing both oral and written communications in an accurate, clear and concise manner to patients and staff members. Maintains confidentiality at all times.Physical Effort: Sedentary - Light Weight Lifted: 25 lbs. infrequently; 10 lbs. or less frequently Walking/Carrying: Intermittent Self-Paced, Minimal LoadHours of Work: Variable work hours - 7:00 - 18:00 Monday - Friday. Occasional overtime is required.Other: Work is performed in an office environment and requires both desk and counter work. Frequent contact with Clinic staff members, patients and business vendors. Can also include contact with angry and upset people. Contact involves dealing with sick patients. Works under the following conditions: potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical, and infectious environmental hazards as associated with the Medical Center's operations. Staff will handle pre-packaged medication samples as prepared by providers for patient pickup. Staff will handle the pre-packaged medication samples delivered by the pharmaceutical reps, after appropriate provider signatures are acquired, by delivering these packages to the appropriate nurses' station.
