Essential Job Functions:Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. This list is not all inclusive and may include other duties as assigned.Layout of materials such as ties, rail and other track material.Drilling, gauging, spiking (installing and pulling), bolting, plating and/or anchoring of rail for track construction.Assembly and installation of switches.Inspect and operate hand held tools, i.e. drills, hydraulic tools.Daily cleanup of job site.Maintenance of customer tracks such as rail replacement, re-gauging, switch repair, tie replacement and/or assist in derailments.Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specificationsInsure safe operating procedures and compliance with company policy, as well as any other governing body (i.e. FRA, OSHA, etc.). Position Requirements: Workweek: 10 day tours (10 on/4 off).Shift: normal working hours are from approximately 7:00AM to 6:00PM.Additional or variable work schedules may be required.Overnight travel required; per diem will be paid during overnight travel.Able to read a tape measure, understand the overall concept of track construction, and follow directions.Able to lift heavy objects, carry and bend.Must be able to withstand various weather conditions and extremes. Basic Qualifications: Possess High School diploma or GED.1-3 months construction, or general labor, experience.Must be able to travel for extended periods of time. Preferred Qualifications: Previous construction/railroad experience.Experience working in difficult outdoor environment. Physical RequirementsMust be able to withstand various weather conditions and extremes.Must have the ability to lift and/or carry 45 lbs.This position will require bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crouching, stooping, and lifting. Will be required to safely mount and dismount machinery, reaching with arms and legs.
