Respiratory TherapistFull Time - typical work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Rotating call required for evenings, weekends and holidays.The Respiratory Therapist provides high quality respiratory care to promote the health and recovery of the customers served by Sakakawea Medical Center. Maintains daily contact with inpatients, outpatients, physicians, nursing staff, and department manager. Works to maintain a good working relationship. Provides on-call coverage that is shared with other staff member(s).Knowledge/Certification/Skills RequiredGraduate from an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care. Carry and maintain current ND license as a Certified or Registered Respiratory Therapist. Maintain current BLS and ACLS. Must obtain PALS and NRP certifications within first year of employment. Must possess excellent communication skills in order to explain/direct home programs and exercises. Must be able to interact with patients and families in a positive manner. Must be able to work with a high degree of independence and possess the ability to make decisions quickly. Must be able to work in high stress situations and retain concentration. Possess an understanding of cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology. Be able to prioritize procedures throughout the day and utilize critical thinking when necessary.Essential Functions, Roles, and ResponsibilitiesPerforms both basic and critical respiratory care procedures, cardiac rehab program, and cardiac stress procedures on:In-house patients including swing bed residents;new admits;emergency room patients;trauma and code cases;outpatients;home care patients on oxygen and CPAP/BIPAP.Performs both evaluation and diagnostic testing on in-house patients and outpatients. Communicates with physicians for the best care of the patient according to established protocol. Interprets test results and assists in establishing the best course for the patientand#39;s recovery according to established protocol.Perform departmental operation functions:daily charges;calibration controls on necessary equipment;stock supplies in designated areas of the facility;chart all patient interactions in the chart;make frequent rounds to stay current with order changes and requests;monitor equipment and report all malfunctions.on call after normal working hours, shared with all RT department staff.Compensation and BenefitsWe offer a competitive starting wage, with credit for experience plus, a $2,000 sign-on bonus!
