CITY OF WILLISTONWATER RESOURCE RECOVERY OPERATOR Summary: Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the moderately complex operation, monitoring, and minor servicing of equipment and chemical treatment analysis in a wastewater treatment plant. Operates light and heavy equipment Supervision Received: Waste Water Treatment Plant Foreman and Superintendent, Director of Public Works Supervision Exercised: Lower level personnel as assigned. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt. Essential Job Functions:1. On an assigned shift, operates pumps, control panels, chemical feeders, filters and other wastewater plant equipment; adjusts valves and controls, takes samples and performs routine laboratory analysis. 2. Makes routine rounds monitoring the facility for upsets, and recording and trending data; notifies supervisors of any changes within the system. 3. Diagnoses, repairs, and maintains plant equipment. 4. Exercises supervision over lower level personnel as assigned.5. Cleans, paints, and otherwise maintains the general physical properties of the plant.6. Maintains grounds of treatment plant including mowing, weed control and snow removal.7. Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to skid steer, tandems, loaders, sewer jetter, vac truck, trucks, backhoe, and crane. 8. Performs work after hours on an as needed basis.9. Will be routinely on call on weekends and after hours. 10. Must be willing to be fit tested and go under air when accessing hazardous confined spaces. 11. Performs related work as required.12. Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures. 13. The nature of this position requires the ability to respond to emergencies in a timely fashion. The position residency shall be such that when the employee is notified of an emergency, the safe and prudent driving time to the waste water treatment plant shall be within 22 minutes of notification. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of the proper methods of repairing, lubricating, and maintaining mechanical equipment. Some knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment, and methods used in water treatment and pumping operations. Some knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with waste water plant and related activities and of necessary safety precautions. Ability to maintain, repair, and adjust pumps, chemical feed machines, and other waste water plant equipment. Ability to work according to a prescribed routine and to remain alert through long periods of time. Ability to take accurate readings, to keep routine records, and to make arithmetic computations. Skill in the use and care of hand and bench tools. Education: High school or trade school graduate, preferable including courses in chemistry and related subjects. Completion of water or wastewater training school. Experience: Experience as a Wastewater Plant Operator OR any equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Requirement: Must have a North Dakota Water/Wastewater Operatorand#39;s certification at time of hire, or have the ability to obtain within 1 year. Must have a valid North Dakota commercial driver license (CDL) or have ability to obtain within 6 months. Must be insurable under the Cityand#39;s motor vehicle insurance policy.
